Yes, ‘Hamilton’ tickets are still available for the Fox Theatre shows – this is why

BY MELISSA RUGGIERI/AJC Music Scene

Some inquisitive “Hamilton” fans have noticed pockets of tickets available on the Fox Theatre website for most of the dates for the show’s May 22-June 10 run.

How is that possible, they want to know, when tickets were supposedly “sold out” after the April 8 on sale?

“Hamilton” tickets are still available for the show’s Fox Theatre run.

Well, the term “sold out” was never used by the Fox or Broadway in Atlanta, which is bringing the mega-musical to town. When those waiting in the ticket queue received a message that tickets were no longer available, that simply meant that the tickets allocated for the on-sale date had been sold.

A spokesperson for Broadway in Atlanta confirmed that, “While the initial tickets available on April 8 were purchased, Broadway in Atlanta and ‘Hamilton’ producers have been transparent about plans to release additional tickets in the weeks leading up to the engagement. We encourage fans to continue visiting FoxTheatre.org to check for tickets, as this is the only outlet selling guaranteed and authentic tickets at fair market value.”

At every concert, sporting and theatrical event, blocks of tickets are held back for various reasons – for the artist/cast/crew, for production specifications, for media, among them – and if and when those tickets are no longer needed, they are released for sale to the general public. As well, ticket orders are often canceled (expired credit cards or those who buy more than the permitted number of tickets per order are the main culprits), and those tickets are returned to the available pool as well.

Other ticket buyers have wondered why some prices have changed since the initial on-sale.

The official word is that, “Due to the nature of live entertainment; dates, times, performers, and prices are subject to change.”

Just like airline tickets, ride-share services and numerous other concert and theatrical events, demand is the driving force behind price.

Also, a reminder that a digital lottery will begin at 11 a.m. May 20 for tickets to the show’s first Atlanta performance on May 22; subsequent digital lotteries will begin two days prior to each performance during “Hamilton”‘s visit to the Fox. Click here for more details.

It is less expensive to buy a plane ticket to Chicago and see Hamilton there than it is to see it here.

Overrated.

Be honest. The black cast thing was THE entire thing about the play. Rapping about history and re-writing history is the appeal to the lazy, who never read, liked, or deciphered history for themselves.

Oh, you didn’t like it. I did.

This may be one of the biggest "living the gimmick" plays of all time.

Making money on its black hype.

Not worth the money, folks.
