Gregg Allman is on the mend and will return to the road sooner than expected.

The venerable Southern rocker  announced last month that he was canceling his tour dates until his Oct. 29 Laid Back Festival in Atlanta at Lakewood Amphitheatre due to a “serious health issue.”

But, after treatment at the Mayo Clinic, Allman has been given a clean bill of health from his doctors and will get back on stage for the Sept. 25 installment of the Laid Back fest at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado.

“I just can’t wait to get back out there,” Allman said in a statement. “I’ve gotten so stir crazy these last few weeks.

I feel best when I’m traveling and playing. That’s what keeps me going, and there’s no better place to start than Red Rocks.”

Allman will perform an acoustic set with his lead guitarist and music director Scott Sharrard before fest headliners ZZ Top.

The Atlanta date of the Laid Back Festival was already postponed from its original May date due to an injury to ZZ Top bassist Dusty Hill.
