Jennifer Nettles is returning to the solo arena with a second album.
“Playing with Fire” will be released May 13, her first release on Big Machine Records.
The sometime-Sugarland frontwoman and Georgia native worked with country mainstays Brandy Clark, Shane McAnally, Jessie Jo Dillon and Lori McKenna on the 11 new songs.
In January 2014, Nettles released her solo debut, “That Girl,” on which she worked with renowned rock producer Rick Rubin. The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Country Albums chart.
In our interview last fall, prior to the kickoff of her tour with Brandy Clark that played Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, Nettles categorized the status of Sugarland as “still on hiatus” (her Sugarland partner Kristian Bush released the well-received solo effort “Southern Gravity” last year and remains busy with a slew of other projects).
Nettles’ 2015 also included a role in the NBC Dolly Parton drama, “Coat of Many Colors.”
This month, Nettles’ pairing with new labelmates Cheap Trick for an episode of “CMT Crossroads” will air March 24.
